OTTAWA, March 22, 2017 – Music and Beyond is pleased to highlight a generous donation to its Ottawa Wine Auction by well-known Canadian wine writer, Natalie MacLean. Natalie has won four James Beard Foundation Journalism Awards and the M.F.K. Fisher Distinguished Writing Award. At the World Food Media Awards in Australia in 2003, she was named the World’s Best Wine Writer. She has appeared in Epicurious, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, the Ottawa Citizen, Business Week, Chicago Tribune, the Guardian and the Huffington Post. In addition, she has her own significant online following with over 178,000 subscribers to www.nataliemaclean.com, Canada’s largest wine review site.
Natalie MacLean has generously donated her custom crafted heirloom wine cabinet, valued at an astonishing $85,000.00. This is the largest in-kind donation Music and Beyond has ever received since the organization’s inception. This prized wine cabinet was commissioned in 1999, through Generations Furniture Co, with the intention of showcasing design details from the eighteenth century, one of the last eras of custom-made cabinetmaker craftsmanship.
The wine cabinet, made from Brazilian Mahogany, Californian Redwood and Madron, is adorned with motifs depicting the bounties of land and sea. These hand craved designs are further ornamented with custom brass and crystal hardware from Germany and Austria.
Natalie says “Our cellar is not about investment, vanity bottles or one-upmanship. It is about celebrating all that wine encompasses: taste, history, science, culture, friendship and intimacy.”
This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece that will be available to purchase in the Ottawa Wine Auction’s silent auction this Friday, March 24, 2017. The Ottawa Wine Auction is a great place to see and to discover great wines but also great wine-related items in our silent auction.
All proceeds from the Ottawa Wine Auction are put towards the Music and Beyond festival (July 4-17) and its year-round young people’s initiatives.
